The Ikea Hemnes shoe cabinet hack that I did about a year and a half ago was such a great addition to the entryway in our rental apartment, because it was incredibly practical, and added a lot of character to our otherwise boring and narrow entryway. It has also received a lot of love on pinterest and instagram, and a lot of people have messaged me to let me know they recreated our hack (and some even styled it the same way with the Ikea Stockholm mirror above!).

So given my (and other people on the internet’s) love for this piece, I was pretty sad when I realized that we have even less of an entryway at our new house, and the closet at the top of our stairs makes the most sense to store all of our shoes and clutter, instead of this cute cabinet.
Since I was looking for another use for piece, and was also getting bored of our existing bar set up, I decided to change the shoe cabinet into a bar and liquor/wine storage, and I’m even more obsessed now!
I didn’t change anything from the original DIY at all, except for the decor. Essentially I just added all my pretty gin bottles, a letterboard, and some glasses and plants. At first I just had everything sitting on top of the cabinet, but I was missing having something larger above the cabinet (we moved the mirror into our bathroom), so I found this adorable little clear acrylic shelf from ikea and mounted it above the cabinet for some extra storage. I also came across the sweet “keep your gin up” quote on pinterest, and it’s probably never going to leave the letterboard at this point! It’s too perfect!
You can pretty much make anything into a bar cart setup, and this cabinet is no different! If you want a budget-friendly bar cabinet with lots of storage, this shoe cabinet is ideal.
Check out the original Shoe Cabinet Hack post for the full DIY details.
Cheers!
