Our most exciting DIY yet!

If you follow me on instagram, you may have seen our pregnancy announcement last week! We’re so incredibly excited to welcome a little one in late July!

We have started slowly collecting a few things from Facebook Marketplace and some small shops, and I was so excited to put together this cute little Moses basket announcement with all the cutest baby goodies.

Moses basket: Design Dua, Succulent toy and Boston Terrier Teether: Indigo, Onesie: BabyChipsCo, Wooden Announcement Sign: Framed Design

We also took a few announcement photos with my photographer brother-in-law Andrew, and I’m so happy with how these turned out! We wanted to do some outside shots (because, covid!) and we accidentally picked one of the coldest days we’ve had this winter! Andrew was a trooper though, and worked his magic to get some of the most adorable shots of our little family!

Next steps for home projects:

One of the top questions I have received so far once people hear the news is if we have started thinking about the nursery! Yes – absolutely! We have started to make some space in what is currently our guest room, to transform it into a fun little space for the new baby.

Before we start working on the nursery though, we have a few other priority projects on our list that I can’t wait to get started on. Hopefully we can get through everything on this list before July!

1. Maximize our storage options

Our house isn’t huge, and our storage options are quite limited. We’ve managed so far, because we have used the closet space and an extra dresser in our guest room to store some clothes, as well as my large inventory of craft supplies! Since the dresser will convert to a change table, and we’ll need the closet space for extra things, we’re aiming to renovate a few of our closets so that we have even more functional space.

This week I shared in my Instagram stories that we removed the wire shelf/rods in our tiny office closet, and added a Billy bookcase that I found on Marketplace. It fit so perfectly in the space, and made such a difference in terms of the amount of usable space we have now.

I have also been on the lookout on Marketplace for more storage options that we could build into our closet spaces and also found a cabinet that we plan to use for our master closet. We have been waiting for COVID restrictions to ease up a bit so that we can get to lowes and pick out the wood we need to get started! I’ll be sharing the progress for this project on my blog and instagram very soon!

2. Add additional guest sleeping space

Since the nursery is replacing our guest room, and most of our family lives far away, we need to figure out another space to house our guests (aside from couches and air mattresses!) Ever since we purchased our new-build home, we knew we wanted to add a murphy bed to our Den/Office, and now seems like the perfect time to start this project! It’s a pretty small space and also needs to function as Brian’s office while he works from home, so we figured that a built-in wall bed would be perfect. Depending on space, we might also add open shelving beside the murphy bed to incorporate even more storage, but we’re still working on the plans for this!

3. Design an adorable nursery!

Because the baby will be in our room for the first few months anyways, this project is the last one on our list – but arguably the most exciting one! We don’t have finalized design plans yet, since it is still so far away, but you better believe I’ve been pinning like crazy! There are SO many cute nursery designs out there, and I think I’m going to have a lot of fun putting this space together.

Even though we have quite a lot to do before July, I’m really excited to document our process of getting our house ready for baby! Follow along here and on instagram for all of the updates!

Cheers!

Julie
